BIOGRAPHY

I have painted for as long as I can remember.  I studied engineering as an undergrad and worked in the field for 10 years.  I believe the engineer in me helps to define me as an artist, with a keen awareness of patterns and spatial relationships and the ability to problem solve.  I am a process driven artist always pushing to improve my understanding of the role of color and form in the creation of my work.  As a painter I try to balance light thru the use of color and value.

The act of painting comes from my soul.  I am always striving for beauty with a message.  I am drawn to the human story of late.  The stories that are at the core of the human existence.  I hope viewers see my work and are drawn into the subject in a compelling way.

New York City is where my storytelling began. The light streaming onto the buildings and the people moving thru the city, tell a story and create a frenetic energy.  I look for areas of color that play against the neutral grey of the environment.  I find rainy days as exciting as sunny days and appreciate the light changing from morning to afternoon to dusk.    I am excited to keep experimenting and see my work develop in a natural way thru intellectual curiosity.

I traveled To Siem Reap,Cambodia last year and fell in love with the people the city and the culture.  I am compelled to tell their story, the beauty in the human struggle to survive and live their lives.

I was fortunate to find a Non-profit nongovernmental organization {NGO} to teach at. I spent a month January 2019 with Leng the founder and the children whom he has taken in and given a home too. 36 in all,  ODA stands for Opportunity and Development thru ART.  It consists of a residential school and 7 additional village schools started and overseen by Leng Touch,{started in 2003}.  Together with his wife Sryon they offer improved employment opportunities thru English and some computer education,  to the subsistance children in outlying villages.  They are now an integral part of my artistic journey.  I will go back again in 2020 to continue the art lessons I started this year.
