STATEMENT
Working with metal is the purest way for me to express myself as an artist. I am fascinated by how the limits of metal can be challenged. Every moment of every process of creating a sculpture is a source of new discoveries, a precious moment to observe both the many potential forms of the metal and my ability to shape, distort and manipulate.
While using traditional metalworking techniques in my sculptures, I want to exploit the characteristics of the material to create aesthetic effects, which convey a certain sensation. A shiny and smooth finish, a visible and coarse weld, a dented or worn or curled metal, a bad weld that contaminates the material, a mirror polish, a scratched or shiny or dark metal, a sharp side or a crooked corner. I love every moment of this process.
I like the imagination that children have and the intimate relationship they create with toys and fairy tales. The interactivity that some sculptures possess is intended to create a dialogue with viewers in which they are prompted to remember their playful side.
In my art, I want to use metal to create images that feel familiar and intimate and with which the viewer creates an affectionate relationship.
